Sometimes in life we may feel like we are struggling to feel understood or heard. In our experience, what we've found is that the most common cause is due to an incompatible communication link between individuals. In the same way we each learn a specific way, Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic (V.A.K), we also communicate in the same manner. The V.A.K. are what are known as Representational Systems and are the way in which we understand the outside world through our senses.
Below you'll see a chart of the most commonly used words for each representational system. When people speak, they will most often use verbiage similar to how the world is represented to them through the V.A.K.
Types Of Communicators

Typically are easily distracted by noise.
They can repeat things back to you easily & learn by listening.

Tone of voice and the words used can be important.

They respond to physical rewards & touching.
They memorize by doing or walking through something.
They will be interested in a program that feels right or gives them a gut feeling.
They spend a fair amount of time talking to themselves.
They memorize by steps, procedures, sequences.

Start taking notice of the words that you hear others use so you can get a grasp on understanding how they interpret the world.
Once you get a pretty solid idea of whether they are Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic, then start speaking their own language.
This means that you will achieve a much higher success rate by matching their language.
If somebody says,
"Man, that idea looks great in my mind, however I just don't see how it'll look when the job is done..."
You can assume they use the Visual representational system.
How do you think the conversation would go if you replied,
"Wow, I wasn't expecting to hear that. It sounds like something is telling you that this isn't a good idea and I thought it sounded great!"
Probably not so well, wouldn't it?
Start observing how other people use their language and start matching how you speak back to them and notice the changes or results you get!
